SSD only helps load times, period. In games like Crysis it can stabilize fps somewhat since it often loads textures mid-gameplay, but I seriously doubt it would affect you in L2 at all (besides load time, which is blazing fast with my x25-m)

If you get a new cpu, stay the fuck away from that amd crap. Intels oc better, and they have more instruction sets (where they can be used - they will waste the amd cpu that can't use them in performance)

Also, if you want performance, don't use fraps, it's shit. Camstudio (free) and hypercam (set them to use huffyuv in ffdshow encoder) don't cause performance loss when recording a game - fraps LOVES to kill performance, and it has an AA bug with some older games like PW causing astronomical performance loss.
Hopefully camstudio will see improvements, its lack of configuration is abysmal.

I haven't exactly run an L2 server, it was an an assumption.
Just as my saying the ram and hdd setup are the weakest points is an observation: I have no way of telling the resource usage, and I don't think admin cares to share the info with us.

Nobody wants to see the server die, yet look how retarded 30x lags were.
It's unplayable, ss didnt work half the time, and on top that there were often long lag periods where I can't move (hence why i wont play a dagger).

also lol @ mention x25-m, that's mlc and mlc drives are meant as read-only mainstream disks, not server environment where there's a lot of writing going on. slc drives cost twice as much. so yeah, expensive, but the drives last ages and this server's been around for years, surely it can make use of an investment.

SSD raids haha... like thats needed... you know theyr like 250gb max and theyr not very cheap, also l2 has been running great since fucking ages on NCSofts servers and they didnt have SSD 6 years ago fo sho.

I'm full aware that SSDs aren't cost efficient atm, be they flash or ram based, but 2 slc ssds is roughly the sustained write speed of 1.6x as many traditional drives, and the random iops of what, 10+? drives in raid. iops are what matters here.

two traditional drives in raid is pathetic (for a server, especially if it expects a lot of traffic), not as bad if it's 15k rpm, but still.

yes, four SSD in raid is overkill, so sue me. but my point stands, the current setup sucks.

I don't know where rpg went wrong, but I know that: the ram looks unusually slow, and hdd is always the biggest bottleneck.

I don't know about their net, but in packed town/siege, each person can use around 30kb/s bandwidth (per person!! that's with like 300 ish people, or at least, a packed aerith giran). That many people in one place at a siege will assrape the server's net, since it has to send all the player infos to each player in the area.

I'm going to play an SE, I play from anywhere between 11 am gmt -6 and 2 am.

Friend is playing a WS or AW (prefers WS, willing to play AW, but won't play anything else). He's in UK but he plays similar times -couple hours. Might  be willing to get up at dumb hours for raids.

Both of us are pretty active.

Won't join a clan unless both of us join.
