if ull clean up it weekly it will be ok for win 7
Win 7 is bad form what i heard ....
win xp FTW ;p

OT: i wouldnt ever take MSI mobo for OC purpose, almost every AM3 and a lot lga 1155 are failures with their bad power stages
MSI p67,z77 cheapset are best MOBOS for OC.
Also win XP is good for weak PC's with less then 3 gb ram, and need be reinstaled every half year, cause problems with registry, Win 7 is for good PC's and dont need any reinstall, cause all old problem's was removed, only what u need is do some managment with safety rules, because they made win7 too safe.

win xp 64 installed just after i quit l2, like 1.5 years ago and its as fast as it was when installed, sup?
tehre are no problems with stability of win xp

:)

Just i know hot tuo use PC properly :)

if you dont mess up registers with another game, programs, etc its fine then :) fragmentation wont slow you so much as registers

exactly its what i said, portable apps, weekly cleaning of temp folders and registry with RegOrganizer is the key :)
:)

thanks for the answers,
now stop that moon language.

128 GB SSD SATA3 cost around ~90-110€, Intel 3570K ~200€ and 8-16 GB 1866/2133 DDR3 (you can use your RAM as cache for Lineage 2 and it's even faster than a SSD) - 50-150€.

Just as hint (build a value pc for a friend some months ago):

- Asrock Fatal1ty P67 Performence ~95€
- Samsung 128 830 SSD SATA 3 ~95€
- Intel i5 2500K ~180€ (new 3rd Generation cost 30€ more)
- 2x G.Skill Sniper 1866 DDR3 8 GB ~45€x2
- Coolermaster GX Lite 600W ~55€

He already had 4 TB HDDs as storage, graphic card (doesn't really matter for L2) and a PC case, so around 500-550€ for a new PC. Rig can easily handle Lineage 2 mass pvps or new games like Battlefield 3.

im not a spec nerd but surely if your making a budget pc you dont really need 16gb of ram

He is using 8 GB as SuperCache and RAM isn't so expensive.

is that hard to use ram as cache for l2 or thats smth anyone can do? im nub ;>

darkflame

There are 2 programs to use your RAM as cache or ramdisk. RAMDISK require alot RAM, because you need atleast 8-10 GB for the client and 2 GB for the game itself. I think neiz or someone in LL had a modified Gracia Final Client just for the textures and models, so 4 GB were enough to get max performence.

Supercache: http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/supercache.php
Ramdisk: http://www.superspeed.com/servers/ramdisk.php

Note: Both programs require 8+ GB RAM (better 16-32 GB RAM), maybe less with the modified client.

im currious.. based on a sata2/ddr2 system; would increasing max ram for ramdisk/cache be supperior to a sata 2 ssd when concerning lineage 2?

i assume its just a matter of comparing opperating freq of said ram vs the data transf speed of said ssd? correct me if im wrong.

thanks in advance,

thanks in advance,
ddr2-800 ram got ~6 GB/s (ddr3-1600 even 2x more) peak transfer rate, when ssd on sata3 is ~550 MB/s at best. Also access latency to ram is literally one million times faster then to ssd (ns vs ms) :D

Queem

RAMdisc is sure better then ssd and cheaper, but... SSD compared to HDD is like 1000+% diference, and SSD compared to Ramdisc is not even 20-30% that are not even 0,3ms faster.+RAMdisc u need upload all files from ur HDD/SSD before start playing after each reboot.
Most effective way is buy 128 gb SSD for system+l2.

thanks in advance,

SATA2 max transfer = 300 MB/sec    // SATA3 = 600 MB/sec
DDR2 max transfer = 3200 MB/sec  // DDR3 = 6400 MB/sec

Access time of a SSD is 0,1-0,3 ms (depending on your SSD)
Access time of a RAM is 30-110 ns (nanoseconds)

30 ns = 0.00003 ms

The problem of Lineage 2 is the game engine. Lineage 2 is always loading textures and models for every player and npc, so a normal HDD with 7,3 ms access time kinda kill your performence (even with a i7 @ 5 GHZ and alot RAM).

All you need for Lineage 2 is a good HDD with good access time (transfer rates doesn't really matter), good CPU to handle all the data and fast RAM.

Edit:

To explain why ramdisk or a SSD is better kinda takes too long. I could write pages about it. ~~

All you need to know:

Ramdisk:

+ best access time
+ best transfer rates
+ no hardware lags in Lineage 2
- data is always "deleted" after you reboot or turn off your pc
- no improvement for the system, just for the programs or games stored on the ramdisk
- most expensive (5,65€ / GB)

SSD:

+ can be used as system drive (Windows + programs), so fast boot
+/- good access times
+/- good transfer rates
+/- almost no hardware lags in Lineage 2
- slower than Ramdisk
- still expensive compare to normal HDDs (0.9€ / GB)

HDD:

+ cheap
- slow access time
- slow transfer rates, just 100-150 mb/sec
- Lineage 2 lagging like hell

Ramdisk

vs

Samsung 830 SSD

Edit:

Also there a programs that can load iso images, so you don't have to copy the files everytime you reboot.
