Those IP or MAC filter is working? Is there a limited number of slots for players? Crashes are caused by the number of players, who want to play?
Title: Re: A question about "crashing" Server
Post by: asachiara on November 24, 2010, 05:37:42 PM
For me the server crash are expected as also the official server didn't hit 11k+ players moving thourhg towns, hunting grounds and  kama/laba/paila instances. As i realize a "very short" rollbacks i suppose there is problem with DB as this "rollbacks" i assign to failed transactions in DB probably space for temp db and archives is too small for so crowded server or DB is getting in memory leaks. As they did put nobless/class transfers/cakes on donate it is not a buget server. so it was setup for 7000-8000k in peak from the start based on experiences with server before. But 11k is very suprising, not expected and it is great. i now that DC form a boss/RB/instance fight is annoying but i bet they are analyzing the issues to be able to correct the settings on OS or DB to get rid of DCs. At least less DC less time needs the admin woke up and solve the issues :D (i know what i am talking about ;) )

Its kinda sad, they should had to know there would be really alot of ppl from stat because near 16k ppl did vote here!

Alot ppl will cry and leave after this weekend for sure because of siege fail then things will get better muhahaha  ;D

Any way its sad they dint consider that there would be atleast 10k ppl on server (if you watch vote numbers) so kinda a fail from rpg there side.

Have fun guys with the game,oh wait mean with the relogs  :D

He was being sarcastic obviously.

We are sorry for this annoying problem. Admin is trying to tweak the server software every day in hope of at least reducing the number of crashes. It's not a hardware problem, it is more then capable as you noticed since start. Problem is the l2 server which simply, can't cope with such a huge number of people online. There is a reason retail servers are limited to 6k online (i think this is their limit if i remember well).

Edit: 7k online (real) should work with no problems. After 8k it starts to get messy.
Title: Re: A question about "crashing" Server
Post by: wooley on November 30, 2010, 03:18:19 AM
Limit boxes to 2 max, like a lot of people suggested at the start then you won't have 10k players online and the crashes will stop.

edit after read MV post:
Its ok if the staff is trying to fix it, and its good if u announce that ur trying to fix it, but come on forums and says that the server crash just 3 times, and if we get more than 3 times dc's its our conection, that is like u r laughin' on our faces...

That "BR card" could also be used on you.
The disconnect issue has become worse these last days, and if you actually took time to read LagysFey post, you'd see that it was made @ 24-Nov.

20000 online can survive under the current server configuration. Because it crashes the server problems that were at the start - fixed.

The problem is not online,  problem = network equipment or any kind of action at the datacenter.

have u (server admins) thought of how server will run during sieges?
i mean .. everybody knows thats sieges r the heaviest part for any server.
and since sieges will be on same time max ppl are online that will be even worse, making the server unplayable even on leveling spots .. imagine on siege zones ... im not saying this will actually happen .. but i would like to know if u admins have any certainties about this ?

Since server handles barakiel zergs quite well sieges won't be any worse ;P It's just the mass disconnects that are the only problem for now but they're not really dependant of currently online players.

been there .. ye server doesnt lag in mass pvp .. but one thing is mass pvp .. another thing is mass pvp during sieges :P

i've only asked that cuz usually thats the main problem in private servers.

Post by: MichaelV on November 30, 2010, 11:06:48 PM
There shouldn't be any lag problems. Seems my last statement was incorrect, as shown by Lagys. From what i understood, it's not the server crashing but the connection to it that gets cut off (didn't connect to server after one of this crashes but if npcs are still there when the connection restores, then the server didn't crash). Probably the switch that was changed today in the datacenter couldn't handle the big data flow. Sad thing is, it seems the new one doesn't do a better job either. Hopefully, a solution will be found until sieges and a better one then just lowering the cap limit. Everyone should have the right to play if they wanted to.

Are there npc's online after the server crashes? If yes, then it clearly is some network related problem in the datacenter. If no npc's after crash, then the server clearly crashed.
Anyone?

Npcs are up in almost all that "dc"

Then that means the server never crashed in almost all that DC and admin was correct. They probably have some problems in the datacenter with a network switch that fails under high load of traffic. Probably that's why they changed it yesterday but it's still the same situation, sadly...

After 8k it starts to get messy.
have u (server admins) thought of how server will run during sieges?
i mean .. everybody knows thats sieges r the heaviest part for any server.
and since sieges will be on same time max ppl are online that will be even worse, making the server unplayable even on leveling spots .. imagine on siege zones ... im not saying this will actually happen .. but i would like to know if u admins have any certainties about this ?
guess i was right ..

Actually, you were not. It was that bad except first 30 minutes when it crashed completelly. Then it went kinda smooth considering the online.

Well, according to your dark vision server should crash or mass dc people during the sieges as well and that didn't happend. Also, doubt if fresh start helped a lot since all of the people and bots logged in back in instantly.

according to my "dark vision" served got crashed and mass dc ppl.
for the obvious reasons the number of ppl online before and after crash differ in some thousand ppl, so yea it helped a lot.

Crash had no affect on sieges and it was 11k before and is now as well, preety much the same. What i saw there was much less trade chat spams after restart ;-)

From that 11k half of them are trade bots. GM's must disable this trade bots if they wanna server work ok. Better 6-7k ppl and server is ok, then 11k ppl(4-5k bots) and server crash all time

Dunno if its true but admins can investigate ,  once i was in giran and when trade bots were doing item cycle after 1 second it crashed maybe it's something related?
