common mistake ppl think that having net framework 4 is same as having earlier versions. Best solution is to install all of them one by one but in your case 2.0 + 4.0 should do the trick.

.NET 2.0 and 4.0 its different versions, 4.0 dont has 2.0 files.

come on some kinda of games want 4.0 and you say "go back to stone age and instal 2" maybe you can upgrade your updater to frame4 ?
