I haven't exactly run an L2 server, it was an an assumption.
Just as my saying the ram and hdd setup are the weakest points is an observation: I have no way of telling the resource usage, and I don't think admin cares to share the info with us.

Nobody wants to see the server die, yet look how retarded 30x lags were.
It's unplayable, ss didnt work half the time, and on top that there were often long lag periods where I can't move (hence why i wont play a dagger).

also lol @ mention x25-m, that's mlc and mlc drives are meant as read-only mainstream disks, not server environment where there's a lot of writing going on. slc drives cost twice as much. so yeah, expensive, but the drives last ages and this server's been around for years, surely it can make use of an investment.
Since people I don't know keep pming me:
Dalamar is a character from a book. And I only speak english FFS.

It was an example, you didnt specify any special disk so i took one randomly to make a check for sizes.

Either way you called me a retard for something you assumed... maybe you should just not call ppl names before your 100% sure?

Since we're talking about that server, this is how they announced the server specs:
QuoteDell PowerEdge 2950
    * Specifications:
    * 2 x Quad-Core Xeon (X5450) 3.0GHz
    * 32Gb 667MHz FBD (8x4Gb dual rank DIMMs)
    * 5 x 450Gb SAS 15k 3.5 Hot Plug Hard Drives
    * Chassis 3.5HDD x6 Backplane
    * PERC6/iR
    * DRAC5 Card
    * Riser with PCI Express Support
    * TCP/IP Offload Engine 2P
    * 16X DVD+/-RW Drive with SATA Cab

Can we get something like that here? There's lots of info missing from that post Alice. I know that info is what the admin gave u, but can you please tell him to be more specific? Thank you very much.

In fact, there is no difference between the two configs :) Only in RAM, but it may be added any time, if needed.

Moreover, IF there are 9k players, we can use several machines for the server. But first we need to have those 9k.

P.S. Don't endeavor to compare figures and make conclusions, if you don't understand, what they mean.

ssj3

u need to improve internet conenction if u wanna more then 2k lol

Dont flag with the best, be the best

yaw85

I think its better if u save your strenght for bitching when servers goes Live, since atm its usless to discuss things if we can only try to predict how many people will play.

CommunismFTW

Agree. Let's wait for server start then start to biatch biatch biatch ............
I hope to God ur not wrong Alice. I don't know what to say about the hardware here cause the most important thing is missing from the config: the hard drives config. But if u say it's the same like in that config i posted (and i don't know why u didn't show it from the first time but anyway...) then it should be all good with ~3000 players online. Maybe needs some more ram.
Btw, am i wrong in assuming this machine is used for game server + sql server? Cause imo, it's a bad idea with the no. of ppl expected to play here. U'll need a different machine for the sql server with a powerfull raid setup.

msonix

2-3k if hardware handles, where's that option?

more than 9k zreg!!
Lert's hope not  :D
We will have to wait several more days, maybe even more then a week, for a hardware upgrade to run things smooth.
3k online for the start with no lags will be more then ok. The "other" server has a 3k limit and has serious problems. But that's because 3k more wait at login screen.
If people will join this server gradually, server upgrade will be easier to do and there won't be as much tears :)

why not will be nice pvp on start villages  :D
and if it will be rly 9k serwer crush? and next 9k on login screen  ;D

CommunismFTW

There's no such thing as a server with 9k online. It was just a figure of speech. Best u could do is something like 6k online but u would need seriously powerful hardware.

wawa1234

acording to hardware configuration it would be more like - russians will play with no lag guys with proxy no lag and those from the other side of the water will lag like hell and have a lot of delay because of the distance ping etc etc etc plus all be lagging the same port mostly :)

On the positive side, lag will be so bad, once you get to d-grade, and even c-grade, you won't even worry about having crafters or npcs selling soulshot / spirit shots. Since there will be massive shots lag and make them useless anyway.
