Title: how to reduce lag
Post by: kuti on December 14, 2010, 11:56:17 PM
I'm talking about my own pc lag, not your server :) so when u look in the ground walking and something it's okay, but then you pull up mouse and look at sky it is very laggy, maybe exist some sky textures which removes sky or makes it black without textures, when i pull down mouse its ok again but it is not comfortable when i see only ground :)

Your pc can't handle L2 too well, only thing I can think of.

start for setup all graphic options to minimum.. no aliasing, low textures, no shadows, no reflections, no weather effects...
Also npc/players very narrow (although this is a fucking shit) and at cities use alt+p.

Close any p2p or other software that use bandwidth. You can have a NASA pc, that if you have bad internet speed, the game will run sux.

but if isky appears like that: http://www.atomicgamer.com/screenshots/mpnz7t9tb7dmgml88x43wy32h2eimib99y9frh03omp59acf9fi5dk7vmke94pgcoprg71jun9zvicbrrtv6e211me9p5p3tfu0mu-800.jpg and now lags begin.
No lag in shops, ch, castle, looking in grass and etc. but then i saw sky lag began...

Because if you look down, less polygons are being rendered meaning your graphics card has to do less calculations and stuff. Once you look higher, more terrain and other random stuff becomes visible meaning more stress on the card.

yes looking straight up to the sky makes u render over 9000 polys. makes sense.
rendering the terrain BSP/Polygons and loading textures uses more resources then loading a static png that just scrolls through a skybox area.

if u have no idea how unreal engine maps are built dont try to look smart.

Don't worry I've started making maps with UnrealEditor (never finished...) but I know how it works.

Some say it does, some say it doesn't. Heck who knows who's right.

It's easy, get some dual fresh ATI or nVidia card and check. You'll still "lag" so nope, it's more CPU dependant game.
